The Best Veterinary Radiology Resources - Obi Veterinary Education

Whether you are still in veterinary school or find yourself years in practice having a list of the best veterinary radiology resources is vital. Here at Obi we are trying to build the best veterinary resource in practice and put it right at your fingertips, but there are so many amazing resources out there that cover things we don’t or have a different approach and I want to be sure that you know about them. So, here are the best veterinary radiology resources for anatomy, case banks and on social media.

Best Anatomy Resources

zur Linden Large Animal Limb Anatomy

Created by my friend and mentor Dr. Alex zur Linden during his residency, this free online resource hosted by Iowa Sate University is a vital source for the normal radiographic appearance of equine and bovine limbs. The resource includes both radiographs ad 3D CT models of limbs with labels.

University of Illinois Imaging Anatomy

A great free anatomic reference for the normal anatomy of dogs, cats, horses, cows, and dental radiographs. This resource is a must see for veterinary students and veterinary practitioners looking for an anatomy refresher.

Oregon State Radiology Anatomy App

A free resource accessed by login created by the radiologist Dr. Sarah Nemenic. This fantastic reference is a favourite of some of my residents and past students for reference in the clinic.

Imaios

A great free and paid resource for CT and MRI anatomy with some general anatomic and radiographic anatomy resources. This one is a bit more advanced, highlighting many of the anatomic features seen on advanced imaging. If you are using CT or MRI or find yourself in a residency program I highly recommend this. To get full access you will need to pay, however, the cost is manageable and the benefits are unbelievable. Focuses on dogs with some additional resources for many other species.

Best Case Bank Resources

Veterinary Radiology

Dr. Allison Zwingenberger is a Radiologist at UC Davis. Her online resource of case based radiographic studies is one of the first and still the best online. If you have a spare 10 minutes, check out her cases today.

Veterinary Radiology MIRC

Cases curated by Adrien Maxence-Hespel, a radiologist from the University of Tennessee. A fantastic array of cases from all species. I really enjoy following along his cases and keep up to date by following him at twitter.com/MircVet

The ACVR

The American College of Veterinary Radiologists is a great resource and has many case based examples. You can join a society to get access to a treasure trove of back cases and an active listserv. Societies include Ultrasound, CT/MR, Large Animal, Nuclear Medicine and Zoo and Exotics (ZEWDIS). You can also follow along on facebook if that is your jam.

Best Social Media Resources

Another entry from Dr. Alex zur Linden. This ongoing case series is an IG favourite. I love the way Dr. zur Linden posts the blank cases and annotations. The only problem now is that we have to text each other to earmark cases for exams, his thread or the reading room. Its a good problem to have and I hope you enjoy his stuff!

Dr. PetScan, DVM

This is a new follow for me but if you are on Twitter Dr. PetScan is a must. No clue who this anonymous Radiologist is but they are coming through with some hilarious and educational content in the last week. Its that rare mix of hilarious memes and amazing cases. A recent case of an extraskeletal osteosarcoma has some amazing images with radiographs, ultrasound and CT. I can’t wait to see what Dr. PetScan has for us in the future.
